El Bolsón: What to expect
This article is written for people who is considering to come here, either by holidays, or actually coming to live here.
For both reasons, you must first know that El Bolson is kind of a middle point between a town and a city. To give some examples, just in case you know them, it's much bigger than El Maiten, but smaller than Bariloche. This has of course, its advantages and disadvantages.
The good part is that it keeps the safety of a small town; even though crime is ascending as El Bolson grows, you can still go out without the fear of being assaulted, robbed or even kidnapped, those things don't happen here as much as in the cities. Also, you can still breathe a clean air, relax and enjoy beautiful landscapes.
What could go wrong in such a paradise, you might be wondering, why isn't it the perfect place, and what disadvantages could it have. Well, imagine you're a teenager and you have some free time you'd like to spend. Basically, you have nothing to do, despite from walking around the main square and meeting other poeple. It does have a nightlife, where you can dance, drink, meet people, etc. But during afternoon, we lack of clubs and other places for teen leisure.
So if you have kids, sincerely and for their sake (and yours, unless you're patient) I don't recommend El Bolson as the best place to come. Now, if you're tired of the city, it's noise, it's rushes and it's toxic gases, well, this is your place.
Federico Szmidt.
