Ancient inhabitants of Patagonia Argentina

It is said that once the Argentinean Patagonia was populated by the biggest carnivorous dinosaur of all times.

Original fossil

In July 1993, Rubén Dario Carolini found the Giganotosaurus CAROLINII in a former lagoon located 18 kilometers to the south of Villa El Chocón. 80% of the fossil was unearthed and preserved in optimal conditions. Nowadays Rubén is the Director of the Villa El Chocón Municipal Museum.

This carnivore dinosaur had short fore limbs, measured 13,5 meters long and could reach 4,6 meters high. In average, it weighted 9500 kilograms. It is estimated that its head would measure 2 meters long. This specimen lived in the Mesozoic Era, in  “Plaza Huincul” area 90 million years ago.

Bigger than the famous Tyrannosaurus Rex, the Giganotosaurus CAROLINII is engraved on the memory of the local people as a distinctive finding.
